Environmental Technology and Logistics Stakeholders Gathered in Kocaeli to Share a Vision for the Future
Organized in collaboration with EKO MMI Exhibition Services and the Ekonomi Newspaper, the event served as a key cross sectoral networking platform.
Held for the first time on June 3 2026 at the Kocaeli International Congress Center, the Environmental Technologies and Logistics Summit brought together the environmental technologies and logistics sectors on a single platform, establishing a new axis of transformation.
EKO MMI Fuarcılık in collaboration with Ekonomi Gazetesi, the summit brought together representatives from the public sector, local governments, industry, logistics, and environmental technologies. At the event, which assessed Turkey’s production capacity from the perspectives of environmental technologies and logistics, it was emphasized that Kocaeli, with its strong industrial infrastructure, port connections, and advanced logistics capabilities, is one of the key hubs in this transformation process.
The event, held ahead of COP31, highlighted the need to address environmental and logistics issues jointly in line with green transition and carbon reduction goals.
Common Transformation Framework
The summit addressed topics such as environmental technologies, the green transition, the circular economy, supply chains, logistics infrastructure, and carbon reduction. Participants agreed that sustainable development is only possible through the simultaneous transformation of production, environmental, and logistics systems.
Abdurrahman Aslantaş, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Gebze Chamber of Commerce, stated that environmentally conscious production and sustainable logistics are no longer a choice but a necessity, noting that the European Green Deal and carbon regulations have initiated a new transformation process for the industry.
In his closing remarks, İlker Altun, Administrative Director of EKO MMI Fuarcılık, noted that the summit presented an exemplary model of collaboration that fosters integration between the environmental technology and logistics sectors and laid a strategic foundation for new partnerships.
Environmental Technologies Panel
The Environmental Technologies Panel, moderated by Vahap Munyar, a columnist for Ekonomi Gazetesi, addressed environmental policies, sustainable transformation in industry, and the role of environmental technologies in production processes.
Mesut Önem, Director of the Environmental Protection and Control Department at the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, discussed the environmental improvement efforts underway in the Gulf of Izmit; the panel also assessed the transformation potential of industrial zones, industry-academia collaboration, and the importance of environmental technologies in sustainable production.
In Canan Özsoy’s presentation titled “Guiding Experiences,” she shared practical examples and field experiences in the field of sustainability.
During the panel discussion, it was emphasized that the green transition is not merely a goal, but a process that requires implementation, collaboration, and a long-term vision.
New Developments in Logistics and the Supply Chain
At the “Logistics and Supply Chain Panel,” moderated by Şeref Oğuz, a columnist for Ekonomi Gazetesi, it was emphasized that reliability, speed, sustainability, and international integration will be key factors for the supply chains of the future.
Hasan Tahsin Tuğrul, Chairman of the Board of the Kocaeli Chamber of Industry, highlighted in his presentation titled “The New World and the Reality of Logistics” that logistics has become a strategic competitive factor in global trade. Tarık Sönmez, speaking on behalf of the Turkish Ministry of Trade, emphasized the importance of aligning public policies with the needs of the sector.
Single Transformation Ecosystem
At the conclusion of the summit, it was emphasized that collaborations between the environmental technology and logistics sectors will be one of the most critical areas of transformation in the coming period. The importance of the public sector, the private sector, academia, and civil society working together to build a future where resources are used more efficiently, carbon emissions are reduced, and more resilient supply chains are established was underscored.
One of the summit’s key takeaways was the realization that resource management and flow management are now integral parts of the same transformation narrative. By bringing together resource systems represented by environmental technologies—and flow systems—represented by Logistics on a single platform, the summit conveyed the message that a sustainable future can only be achieved through cross sector collaboration.
